The Landscape
In Crete, according to mythology, going up the mountain Psiloritis, the village of Axos is located; the place where the nymph Anchiale “gave birth” to the Idaious Daktilous, the first inhabitants of Crete after touching the soil of the Oaxian Earth (the earth of Axos). In this same place, wild and beautiful at the same time, within a piece of landcovering 40.000 m 2 and surrounded by a landscape characteristic of the UplandCrete, specifically Psiloritis, right over the gorge, where its natural fountains spring the waters of Mylopotamos, after which the area is named, “ENAGRON” stands before your eyes. In one of the most authentic places of Crete in terms of mores and traditions, which still maintain their existence since antiquity, close to and in absolute harmony with nature, we have set up our village, which you are welcome to regard as yours, as well.
HOW TO GET TO “ENAGRON”
FROM HERAKLION: Going up the mountain Psiloritis, passing by the village of Anogia, you will reach the village Axos within a distance of 44 km from Heraklion. Even though it has many turns, the provincial road is good. The distance from the airport and the harbor of Heraklion is about the same.
§ FROM RETHYMNO: Going up the mountain Psiloritis, on your way to Mylopotamos and within a distance of 42 km, “ENAGRON” stands before your eyes. The provincial road is in a good condition, while the trip is beautiful.
§ NEAREST SEACOASTS: “ENAGRON” is about 28 km far from the beach of Panormos and 30 km from Stavromenos in Rethymno.
§ HEALTH SERVICES: Within a distance of 7 km, in the village Anogia, a well-organized Health Center is situated. The Teaching Hospital of Crete is located within a distance of 40 km.
1 . The village " Axos " (1700 metres) you can go on foot or by car. 600 habitants inhabit the village. There are coffee-shops where you can sit, small market stores and taverns that are open mainly in the summer. The people are friendly and hospitable and will help you out with anything you will ask them for and they can.
There are 7 Byzantine churches about a thousand years old in the village. You can admire Saint Irene's architecture, the wonderful fresco wall paintings in Saint Ioannis , the exceptional temple at the Timios Stavros church, Saint George , the half destroyed church of Mihail Arhagelus , the also half-destroyed churches of Saint Paraskevi and Afentis Christos .
Not far from the village going towards Anogia is Panagia Kavousani which buildings have been reinstated and you can see odds and ends from the wonderful fresco wall paintings. The churches are not all open, for that you have to ask for the keys from the village pastor.
At the top of the hill there are the remains of ancient acropolis. " Andrion ", the temple of Aphrodite Astarti, Cyclopian walls and remains from a lot of buildings. There are also incised on huge stones segments from ancient writings, possibly laws.
The view from the top is illimitable.
n one-storeyed and double-storeyed (maisonettes) buildings, which form neighborhoods and resemble traditional villages, and inspired by traditional techniques, we have built apartments consisting of one, two or three rooms, equipped with all the necessary means that would enable the stay of 2 to 6 individuals.
Specifically, there is a kitchenette, a refrigerator, and the essential cookware. Room facilities also include a television set, music channels, air-condition, central heating and a fireplace awaiting for cozy gatherings.
All apartments have a veranda with a view towards the mountains, as well as the gorges of the area.
In a ranch, near the village of Axos, within a piece of land of 40 square meters, consisting of cultivations typical of the Cretan land, such as olive trees, fruit-bearing trees, crofts and gardens, as well as natural, wild, uncultivated vegetation including oak trees, carobs, hollies, maple trees, platans and numerous species of the Cretan flora:
§ We built one-storeyed and double-storeyed houses (maisonettes), scattered within the farm, characterized by their traditional architecture, as well as natural materials.
§ We organized areas of gathering, pleasure, relaxation, as well as recreational activities.
§ We constructed settlements in order to shelter traditional arts and skills (jacquard, cheese-making procedures, caldron of producing raki, forge, oil factory) and a variety of other home handicrafts with authentic articles and instruments.
§ We traced easy, as well as rough paths for you to follow during your walks in the breathtaking countryside.
§ We set up a farm with different kinds of animals and birds that provide us with milk, eggs, meat, but also accompany and assist us in our walks in the countryside, such as donkeys and horses.
§ We made a banquet room covering 140 m 2 to host a variety of recreational events, exhibitions and conferences.
§ We made a swimming pool for refreshing moments during the hot summer.
All buildings and establishments are customized to the natural environment, in such a manner that they actually create the impression that they are an integral part of nature.

Overwhelmed by our fondness, pride and good taste, we remain loyal to our mission, that is, setting all the necessary premises and circumstances for you to experience memorable moments of pleasure, by coming closer to nature, and eventually satisfying all your senses, twelve months a year.
Restaurant, Tavern with traditional Cretan cooking. All food is cooked by the local area housekeepers with raw materials and products that are locally grown and produced in the farm, or by local enthusiast farmers of the area.
You can attend or participate in the cooking of the Traditional Cretan Cooking, which is known, worldwide as the healthiest one. Traditional Self -Service Coffee Shop, with local decoction traditional goodies and strictly selected modern standards.
Comfortable lounge, for rest and conversation with satellite TV, Internet, library, disk box and many table played games.
You have the opportunity to attend and participate in agrarian and range activities inside and outside the farm.
Smithy: Wine-‘Spirits’
This is a place of spiritual, musical and gustative pleasures. When the night comes, the smithy is filled not with the sound of beats but with music from around the world or even of your own. You can enjoy it with your own company or with us, having a drink of your like or selecting a good wine amongst the many brands that feature in our wine list, perhaps with something to nibble. Until or even after midnight, the night is ours.
An old smithy appropriately remodelled and adequately arranged for your own comfort.
Banquet Room
We created a room of 140 m 2 connected with additional rooms of 50 m 2 in total size, enriched with audiovisual equipment, comfortable seats and tables for small or larger conferences, which may host up to 100 participants, but also for social, recreational, artistic, and commercial events.
You are welcome to present your new venture, products, goals and plans to your clients or partners; to journalists or cooperators; to communicate your new projects to your personnel along with a recreational event.
You can display your new products in an exhibition in one of the ranch’s recreational grounds making use of all the services offered to you in relation to activities that take place either in the interior or exterior part of the ranch and of course enjoy a genuine, traditional meal or dinner at our tavern or open-air areas.
Our restaurant is specially designed since its main constructive materials are stone, wood and tiles, while it is connected with aesthetically similar areas, which all share a magnificent view towards the gorge and the river, making it a unique place to enjoy your breakfast, meal or dinner.
Swimming Pool
In the best spot of the farm, over the cliffs and next to the pine, locust and olive trees, overlooking the gorge and the mountains, accompanied by the sounds of nature and the singing of birds, refresh yourselves in the swimming pool and relax under the shadow of the trees. Enjoy the nature, the water and the sun, in an open ground of unique beauty.
When you are in the countryside, you gain a different perspective of life. You can’t resist participating and enjoying its grandeur. You are overwhelmed by the essence of life. All your senses merge to experience what the land, wind, water and nature’s creatures- animals, plants, birds, insects- offer.
Our goal is to offer you an unforgettable stay at the countryside, therefore there is a variety of activities that we could plan exclusively for you, your party or why not, together with other guests as well.
As representatives of “ENAGRON” we have prepared a set of suggestions, such as: visits to spectacular landscapes and sights of the area, predefined places and paths that we have traced, through which you can walk, ride a donkey or even a bicycle, while heading for short or long distances, easy or rough, depending on your mood and desires. Nature is amazing and the landscape unique throughout the year’s four seasons.
We will continuously update you for social, religious and cultural events that take place within our area, in which you could participate or attend. Just keep in mind that upland Mylopotamos is one of the most traditional places in Crete in terms of mores, traditions, events and festivals.
If you choose to remain within the ranch’s territory, you will not get bored, since you have numerous things to do and see. Enjoy reading a book at the veranda or under the shade of a tree, in the kafenion (Greek coffee house) or the fireplace during the winter, at the swimming pool or the grove during the summer, while the birds, the wind and the sounds of nature accompany you.
Learn how to cook delicious Cretan dishes by watching our chef; watch how the farmer cultivates the land and takes care of the trees, the plants, the garden, the vineyard and the olive trees. Join the people of “Enagron” and take care of the animals and birds of the farm.

For groups over 10 members we can plan interesting events and activities for you to engage in.
Programs lasting 1 to 7 days consisting of activities in and out of the ranch and in the near area are available, including trips to nature and sights on foot or with a donkey, always with a guide.
You may visit the mountain Psiloritis, as well as the mountain huts of the shepherds, to attend activities, such as cheese-making or enjoy a meal on the mountain.
Join us in a botanical walk where you will come across herbs and plants typical of the Cretan land. Experience the magic of the raki-making process, as well as an evening of plenty raki, with or without live music. Learn new recipes, how to knead country-style bread, how to make your own cheese and sweet preserves. Our people will be more than happy to help you.
One thing is for sure: in the countryside you always participate, you never get bored, as long as you leave your senses free.
